Is this a nice to have or need to have case If this is for a business I would go with a business class server with either raid-6 if you can afford to loose the video (typical retail) in the advent of a raid failure or raid-10 if I could not afford to loose the video (such as a bank, nuclear facility, etc). That system runs at about 10 utilization while it is just recording data.
Linux Security Camera System Software Supports AThis software supports a large number of cameras so there isnt vendor lock in with this product. I am planning on having the cameras using POE switches on a completely isolated network. ![]() I was thinking of 10 fps during work hours and then 5 fps during after hours. Plus since the cameras have web interfaces we want to limit the access to them. They should be on their own network and not routable from your business network. Only record on motion and set the NVR to start recording at least 10 seconds before motion is detected and at least 10 seconds after motion stops. If you are monitoring fork trucks or cars then 10-15fps is more in line. I was looking at a Core i7 with 8GB of Ram and 12TB of storage, I also was looking at the Trendnet cameras and the Trendnet POE switches. ![]()
